“Thank you so much for your email and for checking in. I appreciate all that Ladies of the Empire [have] given me. I’ve been doing fairly well – I am currently taking Culture and Politics, Pacific World, Advanced Transatlantic Spanish, and Disability and the Arts. I just declared my major in Culture and Politics.
My proudest achievement to date is the creation of the Off-Campus Therapy Stipend, which subsidizes mental health care for students with need. At Georgetown University, students who need mental health therapy can receive up to one or two semesters’ worth of care. Students who need prolonged intensive care are referred to external services in the DC area. Although all students have health insurance, the exorbitant costs of off-campus support often hinder a student’s ability to seek out care, which is why this program is so essential. This past January, the university received a $10,000 donation for this cause and pledged to begin supporting students for this Spring semester.
In order to continue expanding the program during the 2018-2019 school year, we are seeking donations via SaxaFund, Georgetown’s student-driven crowdfunding platform. Our goal is to raise $4,000 by March 28, 2018, which would cover the costs of off-campus mental health support for an additional seven Georgetown students during the fall semester.
If you would also like to learn more about the project, please visit our page and consider donating or circulating it amongst potential donors. It would make a huge difference in the lives of Hoyas who, until now, have not been able to reach their full potential due to financial barriers.
